The main library building of the National Institute of Education consists of three floors. The library of the Faculty of Education Leadership Development and Management, Meepe is also attached to the main library.

The library collection has over 150,000 publications. The library holds a vast collection of books related to the field of education, encyclopedias, local and foreign academic reports, research reports and articles, academic dissertations, publications of the National Institute of Education and special collections.

This library is an automated library with the lending section, reference section, periodicals and newspapers section. The library can be used by academic and non-academic staff of the institute, school teachers, principals, readers of the Ministry of Education, National Colleges of Education, Colleges of Advanced Technology, University lecturers, university students and researchers.

The department of Library and Museum provides guidance and training of teachers for the development of school libraries in Sri Lanka.

The libraries of the National Institute of Education focus on information dissemination and development by exchanging information with other countries in the world to meet the information requirements for the development of the education sector in Sri Lanka.
